When Will My DTF Order Ship?
The cut-off sets day one.
- Ordered before 11 AM ET on a business day.
- Any size of order — the rule is the same.
- Artwork is print-ready, nothing to query.
- Payment cleared, or the account is invoiced.
- Ordered after 11 AM ET — the next business day becomes day one.
- Placed on a weekend or a day the shop is closed.
- UV DTF in the order — it ships in 1–3 business days, by day three.
- Artwork needs a decision from you first.
- Payment still outstanding on an unpaid order.
The rule lives in one place in our system and every part of the shop quotes it from there — the order screen, the confirmation email, your order page and the production boards. That is deliberate: a promise assembled from whatever the person on the phone remembers is a promise that drifts.
A big order gets the same date.
Film is measured in metres off the roll, and it would be natural to assume a long run waits longer. It does not: a DTF order ships in 24–48 hours whether it is a handful of transfers or a long gang-sheet run. Printing is only part of it — the run has to cure, be cut, be checked and be packed — and the window is long enough to do that properly for a large run without moving its date. What does move it is UV DTF, covered in the table.
| Factor | Changes the ship date? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Ordering after 11 AM ET | Yes, by one business day | The next business day becomes day one. |
| Ordering on a weekend or closed day | Yes | Counting starts on the next business day. |
| UV DTF anywhere in the order | Yes, from day two to day three | UV DTF ships in 1–3 business days, and the order ships as one box. |
| Order size, in metres of film | No | A DTF order ships in 24–48 hours, whatever its length. |
| Number of designs or copies | No | Same rule, whatever is on the sheet. |
| Artwork that needs your decision | It can | The job waits for your answer, not for the press. |
| Payment still outstanding | It can | Unpaid orders wait for payment before printing. |
You never have to calculate it
The order screen does the arithmetic and shows you the ship date before payment. If you are near the cut-off, that is where you will see it — not afterwards.
A ship date is not a delivery date.
Add the two together and you have a real delivery window rather than a marketing one. Ontario and Québec land in one to two business days after shipping; Alberta three to four; British Columbia four to five. Full transit table by province →
How to make today count as day one.
The cut-off is 11 AM ET, which means an order placed over lunch has already lost a day. If a date matters, place it before you start the rest of your morning.
A file we have to ask you about waits for your reply, not for our press. Getting resolution and transparency right up front is the cheapest day you will ever save. Artwork requirements →
The ship-by date is on screen before payment. If it does not fit your deadline, that is the moment to change plans or call a local shop — not after the parcel is moving.
Unpaid orders wait for payment before they reach the press. On an invoiced account that is handled for you; on a card order it is instant.
Order at this time, ship by that day.
The rule is simple but the weekend makes it easy to get wrong. Every row below assumes a normal week with no shop closures. The two right-hand columns are the promise — the latest the order leaves; it can go sooner.
| You order | Day one is | DTF leaves by | With UV DTF, leaves by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monday, 10 AM | Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday |
| Monday, 2 PM | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday |
| Monday, 10 AM — a large run | Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday |
| Thursday, 4 PM | Friday | Monday | Tuesday |
| Friday, 9 AM | Friday | Monday | Tuesday |
| Friday, 2 PM | Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday |
| Saturday, any time | Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday |
The Friday afternoon trap
A DTF order placed on a Friday afternoon is not due out until the following Tuesday — the cut-off pushes day one to Monday, and the weekend does not count. Nothing has gone wrong, but four calendar days have passed, five if the order includes UV DTF. The same order placed before 11 AM ET that Friday is due out by Monday, so if a date is tight, Friday afternoon is the worst moment of the week to order.
Frequently asked questions
- What time is the daily cut-off?
- 11 AM ET, on a business day. Order before it and today counts as day one. Order after it and the next business day is day one instead. From there, a DTF order ships by day two, and an order with any UV DTF in it by day three.
- Does "ships by" mean it arrives that day?
- No. It means the parcel leaves the shop by that date. Transit is a separate number on top — one to two business days across Ontario and Québec, longer the further west you are. Any supplier blurring those two numbers into one is selling you the friendlier half.
- Does a bigger order take longer?
- No. Size does not change the date: a DTF order ships in 24–48 hours, by day two at the latest, whether it is a handful of transfers or a long gang-sheet run. The one thing that adds a day is UV DTF — an order with any UV design in it ships in 1–3 business days, as one box.
- How do I know my exact ship date?
- You do not have to work it out. The order screen applies the rule for you and shows the date your order will leave the shop before you pay, and the same date is on your receipt and in the confirmation email — so the promise is made in writing rather than estimated over the phone.
- What about weekends and holidays?
- Business days only, so 24–48 hours never runs through a weekend. A Saturday order counts Monday as day one: DTF ships by Tuesday, and an order with UV DTF by Wednesday. Any day the shop is closed is skipped rather than counted, and the date you are shown already accounts for it.
- Does the promise change after I order?
- No. The ship-by date is recorded on your order as it was calculated that day, so a later change to the rules never quietly re-dates work that is already in the building.
